Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you use public transport for most of your tours?

It is our belief that the best way to get to know a city in the shortest time is to see it as the locals do. Wellington has a comprehensive transportation network across the city, around the harbour and into the suburban areas. It is part of Wellington's unique charm that you can see it by bus, train and cable car in a few hours.

It is also an environmentally-friendly option and we are proud to be a carbon responsible company.

Wild About Wellington is proud to be the only tour company offering tours using Wellington's great public services.

What sort of weather can we expect in Wellington?

Wellington enjoys a maritime climate which means it can vary from sun and blue skies to high wind and plenty of rain at other times. We are lovingly called "the windy city" and yes, it can be true. However, don't be fooled Wellington often has no wind at all. The saying goes "You can't beat Wellington on a good day", and it's absolutely true!

We recommend all tour guests bring a light jacket as a minimum, except during the summer season when a tee shirt maybe all you need.

When is the summer season?

Our summer officially starts on 1 December, but we don't usually expect the best weather until January. The best month for weather is February.

Te Papa's imposing entrance

Old St Pauls is one of Wellington's oldest churches, and a fine example of English church artitecture
